Keep Calm & Walk On

Dogs around the world have triumphed over reactivity (fear, frustration, aggression) by doing BAT set-ups, which are calm and carefully orchestrated so the dog feels safe.

In between sessions, dogs and people are still exposed to triggers like other dogs, children, etc. in everyday life. That's where the Survival Skills come to the rescue.

  • How to get and keep your dog's focus.

  • What to do if a trigger is approaching your dog.

  • What to do if you're trapped and can't avoid a trigger.

  • Key behaviors to train your dog to help him stay busy.

  • The BAT Mark and Move technique for introductions.

  • Included with Diamond & Gold Memberships (see below).

Taking the behavioural rehabilitation on the road is always a daunting challenge for owners. This course is invaluable for both owners and Behavioural Consultants, providing the owner with very good survival skills and practices for use when out walking in the real world. For me personally, it has affirmed my own approach and has also added other strategies to my approach as well as refining and enhancing the strategies that I have been using.

The main issue with dog reactivity is that it almost seems impossible to help your dog to go through life without being constantly on alert, if you do not live in an environment where you can avoid encountering triggers or control the intensity of the triggers. For my dog and me survival skills are the most important and essential skills on our journey to reduce his extreme reactive behaviour to other dogs. Thank you, Grisha for this course addressing this specific issue.

Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Author

Grisha Stewart MA, CPDT-KA, KPACTP

I'm a collaborative dog trainer, author, podcaster, international presenter, and keynote speaker based in Oregon, USA. My passion projects are grief tending, community singing, and woodturning. I enjoy developing empowering approaches to help dogs and people live in harmony.

I'm fascinated by animal behavior, somatic awareness, and psychology. I'm passionate about wholehearted living for all beings, including dogs with a history of aggression, frustration, or fear as well as puppies and my other favorite species: humans.

My Behavior Adjustment Training technique (BAT 2.0 book and the new BAT 3.0) is used worldwide to help dogs gain confidence and social skills. A conservative calculation is that well over 200,000 people have learned about BAT so far.

I have always loved teaching. I earned a Master's in mathematics and taught college courses, but I found my true calling in dog training. I have been teaching dog training and behavior since 2003. In 2010, I started traveling worldwide to teach dog trainers about BAT. In 2014 I developed BAT 2.0 and also started this online dog training and behavior school, the Grisha Stewart Academy which now has over 140 classes from my favorite emotionally intelligent dog and human behavior experts. I also co-host a podcast at The Lesson is Love.

As an outgoing introvert, I enjoy teaching at cooperative conferences and am so grateful to be able to offer classes about dogs online. I refresh my batteries by singing, expressing grief in community, and savoring life in the woods with my husband (Tom), Labrador (Joey), cat (Garbanzo aka "Adventure Kitty" and "Baby Panther"), and Little Brown Dog (Zuki).

I really wish that I had found this video when I first got my reactive dog eight months ago. At this point, about 2/3 of the content was stuff I learned the hard way. However, the other third was very much worth the price! There are a couple of skills my dog can do that I rely on to get my dog past triggers, and this video added to that list, including the whys of timing of cues and rewards, which was really helpful. The video is well-organized and easy to follow. I think anyone with a reactive dog will have a few takeaways from this course, even if they're not new to the topic. Highly recommend!

Of course BAT training is teaching the dog to avoid the triggers, but how do you get out and practice in real life to achieve the overall goal of BAT without making things worse? This course is so helpful! SO many dogs need BAT, and I am so excited to think that in a few years, as this movement grows, we will have so many happier dogs and less reactivity! These skills should be taught to every new dog or puppy parent, and would even benefit experienced guardians. Not only do they give you ways to cope in BAT, but how many times is a dog startled by something strange or new, and knowing what to do would really empower the owner and the dog, making it no big deal.
